Catarina e Roger How conheceram-se quando tinham 18 anos. E 18 anos depois continuam juntos. Os dois estudantes da Universidade de Bristol, no Reino Unido, deram lugar aos dois empreendedores de 36 e 35 anos que conheci recentemente na Second Home, no Cais do Sodré. Dois filhos, uma loja online, um espaço de cowork, uma Web Summit e uma agência de branding depois, Cat e Rog — como se tratam — não tiveram dúvidas: queriam fazer parte “disto” que estava a acontecer em Lisboa — das “coisas excitantes”, da Web Summit e da internacionalização dos negócios.
O Brexit “atirou-os borda fora”, contam, e em sete semanas mudaram-se para Portugal. Agora, é na “casa dos refugiados do Brexit” (a incubadora Second Home) que desenvolvem a Polleni e o projeto dentro da Polleni com o qual querem ajudar as startups a construírem e a ativarem a sua marca, o Startabrand. O casal de criativos ingleses que o Brexit “empurrou” para Lisboa e que a Web Summit apanhou são o reflexo do que Portugal já tem, mas também do que ainda lhe falta ter: uma economia local capaz de acompanhar os preços e as exigências praticadas lá fora, como explicou Roger. E é por isso que apesar das “dores” não se arrependem.
Quem também deve andar a sofrer com algumas dores é a Uber, que na semana passada entregou a documentação necessária para avançar com o processo de admissão em bolsa e teve de admitir que ninguém vai esquecer as inúmeras polémicas que fazem a história da empresa. Mas como entre a dor e o amor prefiro o segundo (e desconfio que vocês também), deixem-me terminar este email assim:
— Com uma canção de amor fresquinha: esta.

— E com a sabedoria de António Prata: “E se existe essa centelha quase palpável, essa esperança intensa a que chamamos de amor, então não há nada mais sensato a fazer do que soltarmos as mãos dos trapézios, perdermos a frágil segurança de nossas solidões e nos enlaçarmos no ar. Talvez nos esborrachemos. Talvez saiamos voando. Não temos como saber se vai dar certo — o verdadeiro encontro só se dá se tirarmos os pés do chão –, mas a vida não tem nenhum sentido se não for para dar o salto.”
